Guru
Smt. Vatsala Srinivas

Vatsala Srinivas is a distinguished Bharatha Natyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher with over four decades of dedication to this classical art form. She received her rigorous training under the renowned Guru Mahalingam Pillai of the Sri Rajarajeshwari Bharatha Natya Kala Mandir in Bombay, India, and has performed extensively across India.

As the Founder and Director of Natya Kala Mandir Inc. in Cockeysville, Maryland, she has been instrumental in nurturing generations of students in the traditional Tanjore style of Bharatha Natyam, known for its tradition, purity and grace. Under her guidance, students have presented numerous performances across the Baltimore–Washington region and the East Coast. Her dance productions have also served as a platform for community service, supporting charitable causes such as the earthquake relief in Gujarat, cancer research and women’s education.

In 2013, she celebrated 35 years as a Bharatha Natyam educator with the acclaimed production Nrityatra, benefiting the Murugan Temple Rajagopuram project, further reflecting her commitment to both artistic excellence and cultural preservation.

A dedicated teacher and cultural ambassador, Vatsala Srinivas conducts workshops in schools and universities, including the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University. She has been featured on Maryland Public Television, Fox 45 and ABC. She is a recipient of the Governor’s Citation from Governor Bob Ehrlich for her cultural and philanthropic contributions to the community.

Through her unwavering dedication, she continues to inspire and guide her students on their artistic journey in Bharatha Natyam.

Disciple
Tejasvi Suresh

Since the age of five, Tejasvi has trained in Bharatha Natyam under Guru Smt. Vatsala Srinivas, performing at different cultural events and temples. The rigorous training and dedication to the beautiful art form has transformed Tejasvi into a disciplined and appreciative student as well as a passionate dancer.

Tejasvi is a rising freshman at the University of Maryland, studying finance and public policy on the pre-law track as part of the scholars program. She has been involved with the environment through serving as a leader of the HCPSS Climate Action Plan and the president of Atholton High School’s Green Team. Tejasvi has actively given back to her community through her service as the president of her school’s Key Club and a member of National Honor Societies. Her interest in law led her to complete an internship with the State Delegate and conduct research under him. In terms of hobbies, music has shaped her life, not only with dance but with Western and Indian classical flute as well, serving as the Atholton Wind Ensemble’s concertmaster. She has a strong appreciation for being able to learn dance and is grateful to her Guru and family for their continuous support throughout her life.
