    Denise Hall, LPC, NCC, CRC

    Denise Hall is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a nationally certified counselor (NCC), a certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) and a member of Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). Ms. Hall currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University within the College of Health Professions; Department of Rehabilitation Counseling. Through her career, Ms. Hall has worked along the continuum of care in both public and private mental health and substance abuse systems to include: acute psychiatric hospitals, residential settings, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient settings, private practices, community services board, drug court and justice involved treatment groups. A primary focus for Hall has been connecting research to practice by enhancing application through education and training. Clinical areas of expertise include clinical supervision, motivational interviewing, trauma, women’s issues, consciousness raising, implementing evidence-based practices and somatic approaches to healing. Hall's clinical and supervision work is largely informed by humanistic, experiential, developmental approaches. Ms. Hall has 23 years of experience in the provision and modeling of MI skills and evoking participant interest in advanced skill building. Ms. Hall was one of the authors of Motivational Interviewing Assessment: Supervisory Tools to Enhancing Proficiency (MIA:STEP, 2006). She also participated as a supervisor in the one session MI clinical trial that served as the basis for the manual. Ms. Hall is interested in developing the helper skill set that integrates the shared skill sets between Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-informed Care.
