Martyn and Kristine met after a lucky swipe on Bumble. True to form, Martyn was almost an hour late to their first date and keen Kristine asked for a second date before the first was even over. Touching on all the places they're from, Martyn finally popped the question in New York with a ring from Scotland, and they are having their wedding in Iceland.

They're getting married beside Skorradalsvatn (the lake in the valley of Skorradalur), where Kristine’s family cabin has stood for five generations, and where they've happily spent a lot of time together.

Please join us for a celebration

Date & Time
August 8, 2026 at 2PM GMT
Location
Skorradalur Valley
Pick up from Hotel Vesturland

Our wedding will take place in the Icelandic countryside, with accomodation in the nearby town of Borgarnes, the ceremony at Kristine's family cabin, followed by the reception at a barn on the far side of the lake.

Your presence would mean the world to us. That said, we know that travelling to rural Iceland is a big ask, so please don’t feel any pressure — if you’re unable to join us, we completely understand and look forward to celebrating together in other ways.

For those who are able to come, this RSVP will really help us with planning transport and logistics for the weekend. Taxis are very limited outside Reykjavík, so having approximate numbers in advance helps ensure no one is left stranded. If your plans change later, that’s absolutely fine — ballpark numbers are perfect for now.

Saturday 8th | 2:00pm until late
The Wedding (Skorradalur)

Bring your dancing shoes — and woolly jumper!
There are no taxis in Borgarnes, so we’ve provisionally included everyone on the wedding buses running between Hotel Vesturland, the ceremony, and the reception, with return journeys at the end of the night.

Sunday Plans

We’re aware many guests are considering Sunday return flights. If you’d like our help coordinating a shared transfer from Borgarnes to Keflavík Airport, please let us know in the RSVP. If you're sticking around, or not travelling until Monday, please let us know in the RSVP.

Getting Your Bearings

Here’s a wider look at where the weekend will take us, from Reykjavík to the countryside.

Where It All Happens

A little glimpse of where our wedding weekend will unfold.

This beautiful valley is called Skorradalur, with Skorradalsvatn running through the middle — our setting for the celebrations.

Dress Code

Wedding — Black tie or tartans for gentlemen and Cocktail for ladies, with a warm twist.

We'll all need a warm layer for the evening (beer jackets aside!) so if you have a an Icelandic lopapeysa, or a Fair Isle–style jumper or similar woolly alternative, feel free to bring this as your outer layer.

Please wear practical party shoes (no stilettos) as there will be grass and gravel. A pro tip is to bring a change of shoe you can leave in the cloakroom if you'd like to be more comfortable later on.

Welcome Party — Casual and cosy.

Waterproof jacket, warm hat and sunglasses recommended.

A note on Icelandic weather
Iceland likes to keep things interesting. It could be glorious sunshine, or it could change its mind — so layers, waterproofs/umbrellas and sensible footwear are always a good idea. Our main wish is that everyone is warm, comfortable, and able to enjoy the weekend.

Gifts

Your presence is more than enough! We know we're asking a lot from everyone already, we're just grateful and excited to have you celebrate with us.

Hotel Vesturland

Rooms have been held at Hotel Vesturland in Borgarnes for all guests on Friday and Saturday night. Please confirm your room by emailing [email protected] with the reference code 61640530

All are Standard Rooms at a negotiated rate of ISK 33,500 (£198) per night plus breakfast for ISK 3,700 (£22) per person per night. These are all fully refundable up to 14 days before so we strongly advise booking this as the hotel is otherwise fully booked.

Pick-up and drop-off for buses on Saturday will be outside Hotel Vesturland but please feel free to book other accommodation in Borgarnes if that's more suitable for you (we've added links to Hreyfill below which is the biggest taxi firm) but you must book in advance.

Transportation

Arriving at Keflavík

The easiest and cheapest way to get from the airport to the city center is by booking a seat on FlyBus, it takes around 45 mins and is around £24.

If there are four or more of you travelling together it could also be easier and cheaper to club together and get a taxi. We have added a link below to Hreyfill which is the biggest taxi firm in Iceland.

Reykjavík to Borgarnes

You don't need to worry about transport from the whale watching to Borgarnes on Friday evening. We have organised this for you, unless you are driving yourself. The journey will take around 1 hours 15 mins.

Return from Vesturlund Hotel in Borganes to Reykavík

There are five buses per day running from Borganes to Reykavík, this takes takes around 1 hour 15 mins and is operated by Straeto (link below). From Reykjavík you can take the FlyBus or a taxi to the airport.

Again, if there is a gang of you it maybe easier to get a taxi straight from the hotel to the airport. So please tell us in the RSVP if this is something you'd be interested in.

Little Ones

Childcare options are unfortunately very limited outside Reykjavík, and we want everyone to be able to relax and fully enjoy the celebrations with us. For that reason, our wedding will be child-free.

If you're considering bringing children (and maybe grandparents) and would like help thinking through logistics, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
