Olas Gallery invites you to HORSES by Elizabeth Rose Langford, a new body of work made with pigments from Ibiza, set in a private location that honours the history and traditional architecture of Dalt Vila.
The exhibition is part of CAN Local, the official programme created by Ibiza CAN Art Fair to give visibility to the cultural and artistic projects taking place across the island during the fair.
“I’ve been around them, in one way or another, since I can remember. Riding, feeding, mucking out, walking, drawing, frequently dreaming of them. I cannot imagine a reality without horses.”
The horses in the paintings are Tella, Duque, Lady, Saratan, Moll and Lilith of Horse Experience Ibiza, created by Rumana Hossain.
5% of all sales will be donated to them. http://www.horse-experience-ib...
Elizabeth Rose Langford
Elizabeth is an artist and pigment maker from the UK, living and working on Ibiza.
Her practise centres around natural colours which she makes from her surroundings; the earth of the island is rich in iron and produces bright ochres, amongst other things. Elizabeth won the Griffin Art Prize in 2013 working collaboratively with Luke Cranswick and undertook a residency with Winsor and Newton in 2014 investigating rose madder. Since then she has had solo shows in London, Ibiza and New York, taken part in numerous group shows and participated in various residencies in Europe, the US and the UK. She is currently working on "REDiscover", a research project investigating the plant pigment Rubia tinctoria with NOVA University Lisbon and UCL London. She is part of the collective “SOS Cochichumbas”, an initiative created to protect the prickly pear cactus through artistic action. Her work is in various public and private collections
worldwide including Nobu, ColArt HQ, Corinthian Contemporary Art Partnership, Led Zeppelin and Robert De Niro.
Elizabeth sources her materials from the earth: she uses ancient techniques to make her own pigments which she then transforms into paintings. The work - by its very nature - is dynamic and alive, celebrating the essence of these colours through the gestures of horses. We are delighted to invite you to contemplate Elizabeth’s large-scale works at a truly special home in Ibiza’s Old Town, celebrating the beginning of summer with momentum and wonder.
Friday 26 June by invitation and following days by appointment, at private location in Dalt Vila
