About Our Keynote Speaker
His Eminence Wilton Cardinal Gregory is Archbishop Emeritus of Washington. Elevated to the College of Cardinals by Pope Francis in 2020, he became the first African-American cardinal of the Catholic Church — and remains the only one to date. A former president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Archbishop of Atlanta before Washington, Cardinal Gregory has spent decades writing and speaking on the intersection of faith and racial justice. In 2025 he became the first African American to participate in a papal conclave.
